Collection: Glass Lamp Shades

Antique Glass Lamp Shades are the fundamental type used when restoring vintage lighting. Clear glass chimneys originated from the need to contain the flame on oil burning lamps of the 1800's. These clear glass globes were used on the majority of oil lamps. Many of these lamps were then topped with student or ball shades providing a larger glass area to light-up when lit. These antique glass lamp shades were white, dark green or hand painted. As we moved into the 20th century two glass shade styles became popular for electric lamps. The reflector IES shade was used on many floor and table lamps. while the Torchiere shade was used on large floor lamps.
