Bed Hardware
Authentic bed hardware restoration requires precision-engineered components designed to support structural integrity and period aesthetics. Steel and iron fasteners—including rail connectors, bed hooks, and bolts—secure headboards and footboards with the durability vintage construction demands. Decorative bolt covers in round or oval profiles conceal bolts while maintaining visual continuity on antique frames. Brass bed finials crown iron bedsteads with traditional elegance. Selecting the correct hardware ensures both functional reliability and historical accuracy, whether reassembling heirloom pieces or constructing new beds that honor classic proportions and joinery methods.

FAQ
Antique bed construction employed three primary fastening methods to join rails with head and footboards.
Bed bolts—the traditional approach on rope beds—pass through head and foot board and thread into concealed nuts within the rail providing a very strong joint. Decorative brass covers are added to conceal the bolt heads.
Cast-iron rail fasteners deliver rigid, durable connections between bed rail and foot/head board. The advantage of this style is the straightforward easy assembly and disassembly of the bed. Multiple sizes were made over the years, not all are in production today.
Bed hooks attach to bed rail ends, they slip into slot in head and foot boards, fitting over 2 pins. This establishes a strong hidden joint
Each method reflects historical joinery practices while accommodating modern restoration and reproduction requirements.
Rope beds often require a specialized support to accommodate modern mattresses and springs. Spring supports are heavy steel brackets that attach securely to wooden bed rails. These supports replace historical rope systems while maintaining compatibility with period construction methods and materials.
Bed frames can be expanded to accommodate a wider mattresses through strategic hardware modifications. We offer a specialized bracket that works with our double hook fastener to extend bed width by up to three inches per side. This bracket widens the bed but does not extend the length.
