Oil lamp shades - Student Shades, with a 7 inch fitter, were frequently used from the Victorian era into the early 20th century. These student shades were used on smaller oil lamps approximately 8" in height. Blown glass lamp shades magnified the amount of light, an oil lamp could produce. this had tremendous impact on 1800's America. The brighter light provided options to work and study at night. Hence they were nickname Student Lamp Shades. Shape was mostly consistent. Top of shade was either flat or ruffled. Colors ranged from white, bright colors or dark green. Hand painted designs became fashionable. The rose student shade was favorite. These replacement lamp shades are an excellent choice for antique and vintage lighting.
