4" Shade Holders are a circular shape support with a 4" fitter for glass ball shades and gas shades. There are two types: one fits on an oil burner the other fits on a standard 3/8" lamp pipe.
Chimney Holder is a cup shape holder that supports a 3" fitter glass lamp chimney.
Glass Uno & Gas Shade Holders have a 2-1/4" fitter supports uno and gas shades. There are two socket types and one that fits on a 3/8" lamp pipe.
Student Shade Holders are made in tripod and ring shapes for 6", 7" and 10" fitter glass shades.
Selecting the correct glass shade holder for a lamp that has a #2 electric or oil burner. The burner size, metal it is made of and the lamp shade style and size factor into what will fit.
- #2 burners have a base diameter of 1-3/16".
- Determine if the burner is brass or if it is brass plated, a magnet does-not stick to brass.
- #2 brass burners typically use a student shade holder with a 2-9/16" center hole where as #2 brass-plated burners use a 2-11/16" center hole. This said some burners vary slightly and may require a slightly different size.
- If choosing a ball shade holder both the #2 brass and brass-plated burners use a 2-5/8" center hole.
- Installing a shade holder on a lamp burner requires inserting the center ring between the burner's tines and gently squeezing until it sits securely. You may need to apply firm pressure to achieve proper seating. When adjusting the tines around the holder, use a light touch to avoid damaging the burner tines. Take your time with this step to ensure a stable, long-lasting connection.
- A glass shade holder that will work on a lamp which as a socket, rather than a burner, will need to either slip or thread on to a 3/8" diameter - 1/8IP threaded lamp pipe
- It may be necessary to take the lamp somewhat apart to add the holder. This might require the need to rewire the lamp.
