  • Install this half mortise lock into a partial cut out on furniture interior. In closed position, lock is not seen.
  • Strike attaches underneath surface of lid.
  • If replacing an old lock: measure distance between top edge of lock to lock pin in center of keyhole. This measurement is known as the backset.
Description

Japanned Lift Lid Locks are sized for blanket chests, tool boxes and large boxes. This style box lock is often seen on antique 19th century furniture. These Japanned Chest Locks offer a traditional appearance. Each has a historic black japanned-iron finish. This finish was developed in late 17th century Europe to imitate Asian lacquer work. Strike is brass. 

These box locks are a half mortise style. Each lock has a 2 lever locking mechanism for smooth action, dependable service and a high level of security. When installing lock must be mortised into wood. Lock strike is attached underneath lid. When closing lid curved prongs of strike drop down into lock selvedge. Once installed the lock plate will create a smooth continuous surface on the interior of chest. Only keyhole displays on exterior of chest. Use keyhole cover to decoratively trim front of chest.
