Pressed Sheet Cane is prewoven rattan in a conventional ½" open weave pattern. Use on chair seats, rockers, cabinet doors, canoe seats and benches that have a groove around the perimeter of the seat or back.

How Sold

• Enter length needed in quantity box
• Order 1, receive a 1' x 14" piece. Conversely order 4 receive a piece 4' x 14"'.

This pressed sheet cane is solid and flexible. It has a natural glossy finish. Cane is a light flaxen color. As it ages it will naturally darken to a honey amber shade. It can be stained however the glossy finish prohibits stain from easily penetrating the material, a couple coats may be necessary with proper dry time in between.

Chair cane originates from the rattan palm vine which is a native plant to Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and China, it does not grow in the USA. Most of the finished processing for cane is done in China and Indonesia.

Cane is a durable material. Keeping cane free of dust and dirt will help extend the life of the cane. If necessary it can be cleaned with a lightly damp cloth, be sure to allow to adequately dry after cleaning. Do-not use too much water when cleaning cane as it can cause the material to sag.

Install Chair Cane Webbing

• Pressed Sheet Cane requires a groove in wood around chair seat perimeter.
• Soak prewoven-cane until supple, about 30 minutes
• Soak spline about 15 minutes
• Position soaked-cane over seat opening, finished side facing up. Line up cane pattern horizontally and vertically with chair seat.
• Gently tap cane into chair groove, holding with wood wedges
• Continue pressing cane into groove. Front to back, side to side making sure cane pattern continues to be centered correctly on chair seat. Cane should be taught but not tight as it will shrink as it dries.
• Cut away excess cane on outside edge of groove, slight below surface 1/4".
• Spread thin bead of hide-glue around center of groove.
• Press and tap spline into groove
• Let chair seat cure 5 days before sitting on
