Half Mortise Locks

Antique Furniture Lock offers authentic appearance and quality construction. Use on new cabinetry and as replacements on old furniture. This historic style has stood the test of time, being used for more than 200 years. It is a half mortise type for drawers and cabinet doors hinged on right.

Lock for Drawer or Door Hinged Right

If replacing an old lock, BACKSET SIZE is critical, as keyhole in lock and furniture must line up together.

  • Backset- Distance To Pin: 11/16" (17 mm)
  • Overall: 3" x 1-1/2" (76 mm x 38 mm)
  • Selvedge: 7/16" x 3"
  • Bolt Projection: 5/16"
  • Opposite lock drawers or doors hinged left
  • Left & right locks of same size keyed alike
  • Smaller drawer or door lock  hinged-left
  • Smaller drawer or door lock hinged-right

Many vintage lock sizes are no longer made. As a result it may not be possible to exactly match an old lock.

If using on doors, this lock is handed for those hinged on rights. It has a brass face plate with steel box and brass bolt. Lock fits into a partial cut out in furniture interior. No strike is necessary. Key turns one lever mechanism to secure lid. Once installed, lock is hidden from exterior view. Made in England.

Install Considerations

  1. Strikes were rarely used with half mortise locks. Typically wood is notched to accept bolt. However if preferred a generic #4521 strike is available separately.
  2. When using on doors: select according to side door is hinged on. This lock is for cabinet doors hinged on right.
  3. When using on drawers: Keyholes are off-center requiring lock to be positioned accordingly.
  4. Lock installs into a partial cut out in furniture. In closed position, lock is not seen.
If replacing a lock: the backset measurement must be determined
  • If you have original lock: measure distance between top edge of lock to lock pin in center of keyhole. This measurement is known as the backset.
  • If old lock not available, determine backset by measuring: distance from center of keyhole (where lock pin will be) to top edge of drawer or side edge of door.
  • The backset measurement of the replacement lock, must match backset measurement in original lock and/or keyhole location measurement in drawer or cabinet door.

Perfect

I bought three hinges to use on an 1835 sideboard. With some slight modifications, they fit perfectly and look wonderful. Glad I found your company.

High quality. Very nice on an antique piece of furniture.

We are a fine furniture restoration business in VA and we purchased a left and right lock for a very unique cabinet we restored. The quality and style of the locks matched the piece perfectly. Very satisfied.
