Surface Locks for Cabinet Doors

This Japanned Door Lock is a versatile antique design for use on cupboards, cabinets, and other furniture. It installs on the interior surface of the door frame. It is easily applied to both right and left hand doors without the need for mortising. The historic design is authentic, yet also complements contemporary and rustic styles.

Black Cabinet Door Lock

If replacing an old lock, BACKSET SIZE is critical, as keyhole in lock and furniture must line up together.

  • Backset- Distance To Pin: 13/16" (21 mm)
  • Overall: 1-5/8" x 2-5/8" (41 mm x 66 mm)
  • Bolt Projection: 9/16"
Additional Sizes:

Many vintage lock sizes are no longer made. As a result it may not be possible to exactly match an old lock..

Install Considerations:

  • This black cabinet door lock is quick and easy to install as no mortising is need
  • Mount lock directly to cabinet door interior
  • Surface locks are unique in that they are reversable, meaning that they can be used on either a right or left hand door.
  • If replacing an old lock: measure distance between selvedge-edge (edge where bolt shoots through lock) to lock pin in center of keyhole. This measurement is known as the backset.

When you need Historically Corrrect Furniture & Door Hardware

Paxton has the best brass hardware which is historically accurate for replacement work that I have found. This is a great place hiding on the Internet. And even has a showroom at the warehouse!

ROBERT P.
japanned iron cabinet lock, 13/16 to pin

It works like a dream. Everything aligns perfectly with the lock it replaces... even where the bolt engages the old strike plate. I am grateful for Paxton's assistance with getting the dimensions right, and for cautioning me against buying the lock I originally wanted to buy (which wouldn't have worked as well). Many thanks for such concern and professionalism.
