Glass Lamp Shades are authentic copies of the fundamental styles used on vintage lighting. They were often used with a lamp chimney. Clear glass chimneys originated from the need to contain the flame on oil burning lamps of the 1800's. These chimneys were then topped with a lampshade. The most popular types are student lampshades and ball shades. They provide a large glass area to illuminate producing a good size light when lit. These antique style lamp shades are offered in white, dark green & hand painted options. As we moved into the 20th century two glass shade styles became popular for electric lamps. The reflector IES shade was used on many floor and table lamps. while the Torchiere shade was used on large floor lamps.
