Back Flap Hinges, 1-1/2 x 2-3/8

I am happy that new hinges are well matched with broken hinges in my 250 years old Chippandale desk. However, new screws were little too long and narrow. I used the old screws. I would advice that new screws must be matched with old ones before new hinges are installed to replace broken hinges.

Not a criticism, but you should know if you order these that these hinges are not polished or uniformly brushed. If you're using them on fine furniture, you'll need to work on their finish. The screws that were provided were good quality.

I have professionally repaired furniture for 36 years. Whenever possible, I like to physically handle replacement parts to be certain the size and quality are appropriate replacements. Locally, I found nothing was adequate, so I started searching on-line. Paxton Hardware had this hinge, with the same measurements I needed, but I wondered if it would just be like the thinner hinge I could find locally. The fact this is made in England gave me hope it was coming from a different source, so I took a chance and ordered.

The package arrived quickly. I was amazed when I opened it and put them side by side against the existing hinges. The size was spot on. The leaves on the new hinges are slightly thicker and the hinge pins truly great machine work with no wobble like the old one had. When I am done darkening and finishing these, the customer will be elated and I know they will hold up for the next century of use.

The big surprise was the hinges came with screws! Straight slot flat head solid brass. This was a complete package. Whenever I need hardware, I will check with Paxton Hardware. They are good people. They know hardware. This is the first time I have dealt with Paxton Hardware and I received no remuneration for this review.
