Why is the backset the most important measurement when replacing a lock?

The correct backset measurement is essential when installing a replacement lock. This dimension is measured from the center of the pin in the lock's keyhole to the top edge of the lock. This measurement must match the old lock to ensure your replacement aligns perfectly with existing keyhole in the furniture.
